Calling All Student Artists for EdTec’s 2019 Holiday E-Card Contest!

This holiday season, EdTec will select student artwork from a partner school to feature in our official holiday e-card! The winning student’s school will receive a donation for art supplies. Read on for more information about how to enter, rules and guidelines, and judging and prizes.

HOW TO ENTER

Schools may submit students’ artwork electronically to melanie.horton@edtec.com, or may mail it to EdTec’s LA office: ATTN: Melanie Horton, 811 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1420, Los Angeles, CA 90017

All artwork must be submitted electronically or postmarked by Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

An entry form is required for each student submission.

For artwork submitted electronically, please name each file with the school and student’s name, and for artwork submitted via mail, please label the back of each piece with the school and student name. This information will be matched to the entry form required for each submission.

RULES & GUIDELINES


Medium:
Please submit a two-dimensional piece of visual art (painting, drawings, photography, computer-aided design, etc.).

Theme: JOY!
Students should submit artwork reflecting something in their school community that brings them joy, such as a group of friends, a favorite class, or a favorite extracurricular activity. *Note: Artwork containing religious and/or culturally-specific symbols including Santa Claus, Christmas trees, menorahs, or similar objects will not be eligible.

Size:
Minimum size: 5” x 7”; Maximum size: 8.5” x 11”

Deadline:
All artwork must be submitted electronically or postmarked by Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Additional Requirements:

  • School must be a current client of EdTec.
  • Students must be enrolled in Grades K-12 to be eligible to enter.
  • There is a limit of one submission per student.
  • Artwork submitted must be original work and must include the school’s name and student’s name for identification purposes.

JUDGING & PRIZES

The panel of judges will include EdTec employees. The considerations will be creativity, artistic merit for age group, and the embodiment of the spirit of the holidays and theme mentioned above.

The panel of judges will choose a first-place winner as well as two runners-up. Winners’ schools will be notified during the second week of December.

The first-place winner’s artwork will be selected to be included in EdTec’s holiday e-card! The first-place winner will receive an award certificate, gift card, and recognition on our social channels. The school of the first place winner will also receive a donation for art supplies!

EdTec’s 2019 LCAP Workshop Series

EdTec’s popular LCAP workshops are back, and this year we’re offering a series of three workshops starting in the fall to make sure your school is fully prepared to tackle the LCAP!

EdTec’s charter school LCAP experts will lead you through small-group, hands-on workshops designed to strengthen your LCAP and teach you to engage stakeholders, align your goals, set reasonable metrics, and track expenditures. We’ll also make sure to provide updates about policy and accountability requirements along the way.

Workshop Series Overview

The workshop series begins in the fall and is designed to make sure you have smart processes in place from the start to guide the successful development of your LCAP throughout the school year and help you to avoid the last-minute LCAP scramble! Each workshop addresses relevant topics to focus on in the fall, winter, and spring, and together build cumulative knowledge that will lead to a quality, actionable LCAP.

Dorothy Lee, EdTec’s VP of Client Management and GM of Southern California, will join representatives from Charter Asset Management, Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, and International Leadership of Texas Schools to present a session on Monday, July 1. We invite you to attend “Put Me on the Growth Track: A Primer on Using Working Capital Financing, Loans, and Bonds” at 11:00 AM in Room Mandalay K. The session will address growth scenarios typically faced by charter leaders, including opening new sites, ramping up enrollment, and securing  new facilities, as well an an overview of the different financing options available to meet schools’ needs at these stages.  We look forward to sharing our knowledge in this area and answering questions about schools’ growth challenges.

We’re also excited to participate in a new opportunity at the conference this year, the Living Library, an opportunity for conference participants to sign up for 30-minute meetings with experts in specific topics relevant to charter schools. Kristin Dietz, EdTec’s VP of Client Management and Financial Compliance, will serve as a Budgeting expert on Monday from 1:30pm – 3:00pm. EdTec is proud to be a sponsor, exhibitor, and presenter at the 26th Annual California Charter Schools Conference! The conference will take place in Sacramento from March 11-14, 2019. EdTec staff, along with our partner organizations and partner schools, will present 13 breakout sessions and poster sessions, as well as two sessions at the School Developer Summit and one session at the Renewal Summit. EdTec is Ready for CSDC 2018!

EdTec will be attending the 2018 Charter Schools Development Center Conference as a sponsor, exhibitor, and presenter! The conference takes place December 10-11 in San Francisco at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. We’ll be at Booth #18 at the Exhibitor Fair, so be sure to stop by to say hello and learn more about how we support California charters with charter petition development, back office, and school data and compliance.

We’re also excited to share that EdTec staff will present three sessions on Tuesday, December 10. These sessions are designed to educate charter school leaders about various aspects of charter school business operations. We invite you to attend “Your Guide to Financial Statements” from 8:00AM-  9:15AM in Salon 4, with Bryce Fleming, EdTec’s Senior Director of Client Management and School Finance, and Melissa Garcia of LIIF.  The session aims to make financial statements less intimidating for board members and charter school staff without a financial background. The presenters will provide an overview of financial terms and various financial statements, as well as tips for what to look for when monitoring a school’s fiscal health.

Our next session, “Preparing for Your Audit” is also scheduled for 8:00AM – 9:15AM, in Salon 2. Kelly Ellis, Client Manager, EdTec, together with Jim Rotherham of Squar Milner, LLP will discuss new requirements for the LCAP and one-time funding sources, as well as offer advice for how to ensure a smooth audit process.

Later on Tuesday, EdTec will present “Get Ready for Your Charter Renewal” from UPDATED TIME & LOCATION 2:00PM – 3:15PM in Salon 11.  EdTec team members Jennifer Reyes, Ed.D., Educational Support Services Manager; Annice Weinstein, Senior Manager, Assessment Data and Analysis; and Bryce Fleming, Senior Director of Client Management and School Finance, will share their expertise in charter school finance, governance, and student performance, and draw from lessons learned to provide advice about how to tackle the charter renewal petition process. This session will cover nearly all facets of the process, from reviewing the original charter to renewal petition advocacy.

EdTec to Present at 2018 New Mexico Public School Leadership Conference

EdTec is excited to attend the 2018 New Mexico Public School Leadership Conference as a presenter and exhibitor! The conference will take place June 21-22 at the Crowne Plaza in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Katie Rarick, Client Manager at EdTec, will present a double session of training on each day of the conference. The training, “Charter Finance”, which has been approved for Governing Board Member Annual Training Credit, will take place on Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22 from 9:30am – 10:20am, and again from 10:30am – 11:20am, in the Colorado room. The training will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of charter school board members in managing their school’s financial health and sustainability, as well as identifying and preventing fraud and misfeasance.

We hope to see you at the training and our exhibitor table, where you can meet members of our team and discuss how we support New Mexico charter schools with charter development and back-office services.

Bryce Fleming, EdTec’s Senior Director of Client Management and School Finance, will join Sarah Garrett of the Low Income Investment Fund to present a session at the conference. We invite you to attend  “Cracking the Code: Your Guide to Financial Statements” on Tuesday, June 19 at 8:00 AM in Room 17B.  This presentation is designed for charter school board members and administrators who do not have much experience with financial statements, and it will aim to decode the fundamentals of accounting and budgeting so that you are prepared to effectively engage in financial discussions and evaluate your organization’s fiscal health. We look forward to sharing our knowledge on this topic with charter school leaders from across the country!
